Guys' Weekend

Fishing, Golf, and Gulf Coast Adventures

Whether you're planning a fishing trip, reconnecting with old friends, or simply looking for an excuse to get away, Bay City offers the perfect basecamp for a weekend on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Spend your days on the water, along the shoreline, or teeing off at Rio Colorado Golf Course, a Gary Player-designed course that offers a challenging and scenic round in the heart of Matagorda County. Between fishing, golf, great food, and Gulf Coast scenery, there's no shortage of ways to spend time outdoors before returning to Bay City for cold drinks, great meals, and stories from the day's adventures.

If your visit coincides with Camofest you'll find even more opportunities to celebrate the outdoor traditions that make Matagorda County special. From fishing and hunting to wildlife, conservation, and Gulf Coast recreation, the annual festival is a natural fit for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors.

Friday Evening

Arrive in Bay City and kick off the weekend with a great meal and even better company. Whether you're planning tomorrow's fishing trip or deciding who has the best chance of winning a round of golf, the weekend starts around the dinner table.

Grab a steak at K2 Steakhouse, enjoy fresh seafood at Blue Ocean Seafood, or choose another local favorite before settling in for the evening. After all, tomorrow starts early.

Saturday

Rise before sunrise and head toward the coast. Whether you're surf fishing, launching a boat, booking a guided trip, or spending the day exploring the area's outdoor recreation opportunities, Matagorda County offers some of the best fishing and coastal experiences on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Spend the afternoon exploring the coast and taking in the scenery that makes this stretch of Texas so special. Watch boats come and go from the marina while enjoying lunch on the waterfront, swap stories from the morning's adventures, and enjoy the slower pace of life along the Gulf.

While you're there, take time to explore Matagorda itself. Founded in 1829, Matagorda is the third-oldest town in Texas and offers a glimpse into the state's coastal heritage alongside some of the best fishing waters on the Gulf Coast.

As the sun begins to set, return to Bay City and celebrate a successful day with your catch of the day or head over to Fat Grass for upscale dining, cold drinks, and plenty of stories from the day's adventures.

If you're visiting during the summer, spend the evening at El Maton National Hall's Summer Nights series. With live music, dancing, and a tradition that spans generations, it's a chance to experience the kind of Gulf Coast community gathering that has become a summertime staple in Matagorda County.

Sunday

Before heading home, enjoy breakfast and one final adventure at Rio Colorado Golf Course. Designed by legendary golfer Gary Player, the course offers a challenging and scenic round surrounded by the natural beauty of Matagorda County.

Whether you're settling a friendly wager, squeezing in one last birdie, or simply enjoying a morning on the links with friends, it's the perfect way to wrap up a weekend on the Texas Gulf Coast.

As you make the drive home, you'll leave with plenty of stories, a few new memories, and maybe even plans for a rematch.
